This week in Year 3
This week in English, we started reading The BFG and the children have already loved meeting the giant and exploring the strange world of Giant Country. We wrote some brilliant diary entries, imagining how Sophie might have felt during the dramatic events of the story. The children worked hard to include thoughts, feelings and descriptive detail to make their writing engaging for the reader.

In Maths, we have been learning how to partition numbers to help us bridge through tens and hundreds when adding and subtracting. The children used their understanding of place value to solve calculations efficiently and explain their reasoning clearly.
In Geography, we further explored the continent of South America, learning more about its physical and human features. We identified mountain ranges, rivers and rainforests, as well as looking at the cities, landmarks and populations that make the continent so diverse. The children asked some fantastic questions and enjoyed comparing South America to places they already know.

In Computing, we have been investigating loops and writing our own algorithms. The children discovered how repeating instructions can make coding much more efficient and practised debugging their programs when things did not quite go to plan.

In PE, we have started practising for our upcoming Sports Day. Everyone showed great determination, teamwork and resilience while taking part in the different events and challenges. It was lovely to see the children encouraging one another and trying their very best.
In RE, we explored the Holy Trinity and looked carefully at images and symbols around church that help us understand this important part of our faith. We then created some brilliant Trinity fidget spinners to help us remember the three persons of the Trinity in a creative way.

Inspired by what they had seen, the children created their own paintings and responses. There are some fantastic pieces, please take a look at our gallery.

In English, we have continued reading Journey to Jo’burg. This week, Naledi and Tiro finally arrived in Jo’burg and visited their mum in Parktown. Year 3 Friday Blog Friday 2nd April
Date: 2nd Apr 2026 @ 4:46pm

We have had a lovely end to the term in Year 3.
In RE, we have been learning about the Easter story and Holy Week. We watched different adaptations of the story and had some very thoughtful discussions in class. We also had the opportunity to watch Year 6 lead their Easter liturgy in church, which was a very reflective and thought-provoking experience for us all.

In English, we enjoyed reading more of our class novel and the children wrote in role as Naledi, imagining what it would be like to see the big city for the very first time. We focused on using ambitious vocabulary and writing in full, well-structured sentences. It was wonderful to see the children really stepping into the character and bringing their ideas to life.

In Maths, we have now come to the end of our fractions unit. The children have worked incredibly hard throughout this topic, and it has really paid off. Everyone has shown a fantastic level of understanding and knowledge this week - well done everyone for your effort and perseverance!
In Computing, we finished off our unit by creating brochures on Ancient Egypt using Canva. It has been lovely seeing all the learning that has taken place at home as well, there has clearly been lots of enthusiasm for our Egypt topic! We also have some exciting news coming next term linked to this, so watch this space.

In PE, we wrapped up our tag rugby learning, with the children showing brilliant teamwork, effort and sportsmanship. It has been great to see their skills develop over the term.
We hope you all have a peaceful and restful Easter break and come back ready for a busy summer term. Please remember summer uniforms when we return.
Well done, Year 3.
