Foundation Stage- Reception 2026 - 2027
Welcome to Reception!
Mrs Stone and Mrs Cliffe are delighted to welcome our newest children to St Oswald’s and are looking forward to an exciting year of learning together.
In Reception, we build on what every child already knows and can do, helping them to grow in confidence, independence and curiosity. Our children learn through a mixture of adult-led activities, purposeful play and exploration, both indoors and outdoors.
Throughout the year, we will encourage the children to make friends, ask questions, explore new ideas and develop a real love of learning. Most importantly, we want every child to feel happy, safe and valued as they begin their journey at St Oswald’s.
Teaching in the Early Years Foundation Stage is based on securing progress towards Early Learning Goals, which indicate what is expected of most children by the end of the foundation stage. These goals are contained within the following areas of learning and development:-
Three Prime Areas
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
Four Specific Areas
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding of the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
In addition there is a focus on the characteristics of Effective Learning which are:
- Playing and Exploring
- Active Learning
- Creating and Thinking Critically
We are so excited for you to be at our school. We have lots of exciting things happening in our foundation stage and when you join us, you too will experience the ever changing classroom, the visits, the visitors and much, much more.
