Year 6 – Baileys Court Primary School

Welcome to the Year 6 weekly blog.

This week in Year 6

English

How to Become a Detective in UK | Without Being Police Officer – One Education

In English we have begun our new unit all about detective fiction. We have shared the story 'The Happy Alien' together and used tentative language to explore our suspects in the text. We have also written a diary entry in role based on the events of the story.

Maths

Great Hollands Primary School - Fractions!

This week, we have been learning all about fractions. We have revised how to add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers and we have also learned how to multiply two fractions together and divide a fraction by an integer.

RE

The Lenten Promise – The Wrangler

In RE, we have started our new topic 'desert to garden'. We made some beautiful title pages and created our own Lenten promises, thinking about how kindness can be transformative in our communities.

Topic

In Science, we continued with our work on the body. We learned what pulse was and investigated which exercise increased our pulse the most.

For Art, we completed our topic on colour by designing our own colourful space!

As part of our Faith in Action award, we completed our second reflection. We thought carefully about the story of 'The Good Samaritan' and explored how we could show love to our neighbours through acts of kindness.

Homework - Kristina Stevenson's Classroom - SSD Public Website at Salem School District

Please complete the following tasks by Wednesday

Reading - Use your home reading to read every night for 30 minutes. You also have a reading diary that must be used for the title of the book and any challenges chosen.

Books may be changed on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

Spelling -

Spellings this week are from the Y5/Y6 and the Y3/Y4 statutory spellings.

We will have our test on the 6/03/25

It is useful to write the words down on the spelling sheet, but you could also ask someone to call the words out and spell them out loud. Other ideas include, breaking the words up and writing them down in different colours (accommodate). You could look for words within words (accompany) or think of your own ways to remember the word, for example, spell it aloud using a mnemonic or tune.
