Our Learning this Week
In English, we practised using adverbial phrases and fronted adverbials.
We used ‘human sentences’ to help us with our learning – you can see some pictures in our gallery.
We also finished our class novel, The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips, and then discussed the characters and the story.
In Maths, we consolidated our knowledge about numbers to two decimal places by comparing and ordering decimal numbers using the greater than ( > ) and less than ( < ) signs.
We also placed hundredths on a number line.
Year 4 have shown a super understanding of hundredths - well done to you all!
In RE, started our new topic – Desert to Garden.
We read the parable of the Prodigal Son and then retold it to show our understanding.
Following this, we 'hotseated' some of the different characters to find out their feelings and delve further into the idea of God forgiving, even when we turn away from him.
In Science, we continued with our States of Matter topic by planning an investigation to see which type of chocolate melt the fastest.
In our ‘Our Happy Mind’ lesson, learnt how to show respect to others and ourselves.
In PE, we played tag rugby. We demonstrated how to pass a ball using a swing pass accurately and then used a simple tactic in a game.
Have a look at the pictures in our gallery.
In Geography, we explored an atlas to find out where rainforests are usually located around the world.
We discovered that rainforests are usually found close to the equator.
In Computing, we finished our photo editing topic by planning an image we wanted to create.
We took a photograph and then used the photo editing skills we’d learnt to attempt to create this image.
Have a look at our finished projects in our gallery.
In Art, we started a new topic – Exploring still life. We began by looking at the art work of Paul Cezanne.
Then we used the ‘Four Colour Gestural Drawing Exercise’.
This involved using only 4 colours to help us appreciate how seeing simple shapes can help improve drawing skills.
In our Forest School session there was amazing resilience and team-work shown when making the shelters. The children also demonstrated their knot-tying skills.
We also talked about all the flowers growing in our nature area.
