Year 2 Blog Friday 13th February 2026
Date: 10th Feb 2026 @ 10:01am

Well done to everyone in Y2 for working so hard and doing great learning over the last few weeks.
Home Practice
Reading: In Year 2, children should read for at least 15/20 minutes every night and talk about the book. This will help with understanding the text and learning new words.
Spelling: Please practise these spellings for your quiz on Friday (27.02.26):
so sow plain plane road rode scene seen break brake
Sumdog: Complete the multiplication and spelling challenges.
Counting: Count forwards and backwards in 3 to 60.
You could say them out loud or write the numbers down. Look at the pattern, what do you notice?
You could also work on your 2, 5, 10 or 3 times tables and doubling and halving.

English
We are authors! This week we have been re-telling the story of Esio Trot.
We have written our own books, concentrating on using interesting language, our beautiful handwriting and correct spellings.
We went on a book tour and read our books to the children in Year 3, 4 and 5.
SPaG
We have worked a lot on homophones and the children are getting better and better and selecting the corresct spellings for each one.
Maths
During Maths lessons, we have been learning a lot about multiplication and division.
The children have been halving 2-digit numbers and they used arrays, repeated addition and times tables to solve problems.
We also looked at sharing and grouping for division.

R.E.
We listened to another Parable - The Calming of the Storm and thought about it's meaning.
In response, the children retold the events on a story board with lovely illustrations.

History
The children learnt about the famous creator of the World Wide Web, Tim Berners Lee.
They created a fantastic poster all about him and his work.

PE
We finished our Gymnastic topic this week.
The children worked on some fantastic sequences on the large apparatus. They included, super jumps, balances, rolls and travelling.
Art
We did some art related to our Mental Health Week. We explored the theme THIS IS MY PLACE.
We created a piece which explored our sense of belonging which included places, groups and activities.
Science
We learnt about natural and manufactured materials.
Forest School
We used willow to make a decoration. The willow grows around school and we use it because it's very flexible.
We made a heart shape and decorated it with ribbon.
We also looked at all the bulbs which are starting to grow.

The children made posters about staying safe online - if something does not feel right we stop and tell an adult.
We wrote/drew pictures about our 'Happy Place'
