Intent

Our computing curriculum focuses on a progression of skills in Digital Literacy, Computer Science, Information Technology and Online Safety in line with the national curriculum programme of study. To ensure all children become competent, creative and careful users of technology, we revisit these strands regularly to ensure all learning is embedded and skills are successfully developed. The Early Years Framework is the foundation for these skills and provides the building blocks for all future learning in computing.

Implementation

We teach computing through the Teach Computing programme, in line with the national curriculum and create opportunities for our pupils to use technology to enhance their learning experiences across the curriculum. To promote computational thinking and problem solving, we use the Code.org platform. Through this we teach computer science/coding using their rigorous CS courses. See our Summer term overview below.

Impact

Our children are always exploring new ways to apply their computing knowledge and skills in other areas of the curriculum. They show an interest in programming and creative design and help others in lessons and in our coding clubs. Children leave our school in Year 6 well prepared for the KS3 computing curriculum, showing high levels of understanding and digital creativity.
