This week in Year 3, we’ve been busy diving into lots of exciting learning!

Home Practice

Reading: Please read every night at home. Remember to change your school books regularly, we have an amazing selection to choose from!

Spellings: The common words taught in KS1. Look for the tricky bits in these words. If you remember the tricky bits you will remember more spellings!

Maths: Challenges are set on Sumdog. They are on 2D Shape and your x3,x4 and x8 times tables. Make sure to access the fluency challenge to practise your hard skills.

This week in Year 3

What a fantastic week of learning we have had in Year 3!

In RE, we have been exploring two powerful miracle stories from the Bible. We read about the miracle of the manna in the desert from the Old Testament and compared it to the feeding of the 5,000 in the New Testament. The children made thoughtful links between the two stories, recognising how both show God’s care and provision for His people. We brought the Gospel story to life by acting out the feeding of the 5,000 and recording it using Apple Clips. The children really enjoyed stepping into role and retelling the miracle in a creative way.

In English, we have been reading and retelling the traditional tale of Ferdinand the Bull. The focus this week has been on telling the story in the correct order, ensuring our writing flows with cohesion and clarity. The children worked incredibly hard to use ambitious vocabulary to elevate their ideas and bring the gentle Ferdinand to life for the reader. We will be finishing Toro! Toro! next week and are looking forward to seeing how the story finishes.

Below you will find the reading VIPERS question stems.

In Maths, our focus has been angles in 2D shapes. Everyone shared their ideas brilliantly and demonstrated a strong understanding of how to identify and describe angles within different 2D shapes. It has been wonderful to see such confident mathematical discussion taking place.

In PE, we were delighted to welcome back Mrs Cookson and begin our touch rugby. This half term we will be focusing on teamwork, supporting one another during matches and ensuring everyone is included equally in the game. There was a fantastic team spirit on display already!

In Music, the children explored the djembe drums. They worked carefully on creating and maintaining rhythms, learning how to accompany a piece of music with control and confidence. Mrs Campbell was very impressed with everyone's focus and musicality.

Well done, Year 3. Another week of hard work, creativity and brilliant learning.

Have a lovely weekend
