St Oswald's Catholic Primary School: Our blogs

Welcome back after our half term break.

It was great to see everyone at Parent's Evening and

share/celebrate Year 2's learning and progress so far.

Home Practice

Reading: In Year 2, children should read for at least 15/20 minutes every night and talk about the book. This will help with understanding the text and learning new words.

Spelling: Please practise these spellings for your quiz on Friday (06.03.26):

January February March April may June July August September October November December

Sumdog: Complete the money and spelling challenges.

Counting: Count forwards and backwards in 5 to 100 or beyond.

You could say them out loud or write the numbers down. Look at the pattern, what do you notice?

You could also work on your 2, 5, 10 or 3 times tables and doubling and halving.

Manfred the Baddie

English

We read our new story, Manfred the Baddie by John Fardell.

The children drew the character and talked about different words (adjectives) they would use to describe him.

They learnt to write expanded noun phrases, which they will use for a character description next week.

Maths

The children have been solving muliplication and division word problems.

They found out that sometimes they need to share, group or draw pictures to work out the answers.

Next week, we will be learning more about money.

RE

As part of our RSHE, the children discussed times we felt safe in our community and times we might feel unsafe. The children wrote/illustrated their ideas very well.

Science

We got some seed heads from our garden area and observed them closely. We opened them and got the seeds out which we are going to plant next week.

We watched some time-lapse videos of plants growing from seeds.

Forest School

We went to sow some wildflower seeds near our pond.

The first group saw a deer in the field.
