Foundation Stage- Reception 2021 - 2022
Mrs Stone and Mrs Robinson are the class teachers in Reception. Mrs Cliffe is the Teaching Assistant and helps our youngest learners with all their learning.
The Early Years Foundation Stage sets the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five. This may take place in a variety of settings including nursery classes, pre-school playgroups and with registered child minders, as well as in the school reception class.
Teaching is based on securing progress towards Early Learning Goals, which indicate what is expected of most children by the end of the foundation stage. These goals are contained within the following areas of learning and development:-
Three Prime Areas
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
Four Specific Areas
- Understanding of the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
In addition there is a focus on the characteristics of Effective Learning which are:
- Playing and Exploring
- Active Learning
- Creating and Thinking Critically
The foundation stage is important in its own right, and in preparing children for later schooling. At St Oswald’s school we build on what our children already know and can do. We offer a structure for learning that has a range of starting points and a content that matches the needs of young children. We also provide opportunities for learning indoors and outdoors.
We have lots of exciting things happening in the foundation stage and when you join us, you too will experience the ever changing classroom, the visits, the visitors and much, much more…
