Year 2 Home Practice - 11th December 2020

Today we took part in the St Oswald’s Santa Dash. We managed to stay moving for 15 laps around the yard. Well done to all of Year 2 for showing resilience and not giving up! This week we have carried on reading The Christmasaurus. We have produced some wonderful descriptive pieces and the children have really enjoyed creating their own Christmas Ranch. In Maths we have focused on multiplication and touched on division towards the end of the week. We have used a number of various strategies to help us solve multiplication questions. In French the children have learnt about La légende de Saint Nicolas. We listened to this interesting story and made a card (in French). We are very excited for all the Christmas celebrations next week. 1 week to go! J

Year 2 Home Practice - 4th December 2020

Another brilliant week in Year 2. We are starting to feel very Christmassy! After quarantining, a naughty elf has joined our classroom today. I wonder what sort of mischief he will get up to. This week we have been reading The Christmasaurus and Year 2 have produced some wonderful pieces of work. In Maths we have been focusing on multiplication. We have used arrays to help us solve questions and understood that multiplication is the same as repeated addition. In RE we looked at the different symbols on an Advent Wreath and we tried to retell the Annunciation story. We even did some orienteering to find baby Jesus! It has been lovely seeing all of Year 2 creating their own dance routines - we have even performed them to the class! We have had a great time in PE with Mrs Cookson and we have also done our the active Advent, trying to stay active for at least 30 minutes a day.

Year 2 Home Practice - 27th November 2020

It was great to see smiling faces return to school this week. We continue to work hard in Year 2 and the children have had a great week. This week we have been carrying on from our Paddington story and carried out research on different types of bears. The children then created a non-fiction poster with the information gathered. In Maths we have continued to focus on strategies for solving addition and subtraction questions. Next week we ill be moving onto multiplication. In RE we have started our new topic of Advent/Preparation and we have discussed how we can prepare for Christmas/the birth of Jesus. In PE we have continued to look at racket skills and children have worked hard on being able to strike ball accurately. Another brilliant week, well done!

We have had a great week in Year 2. In English this week the children have wrote about the novel Paddington. We have written brilliant instructions for bath time. This week in Maths we have looked at adding 3 single digit numbers and finding bonds to help add the numbers together. The children learnt about Judaism in RE this week for Judaism Week. This half term in History we are learning all about the Fire of London. In Art we sketched the outdoors and worked hard to take our time using different strokes. You all looked Fab in your spots for Children in Need – we helped Jo Wicks with his 24 Hour PE challenge today too. Well done to everyone on Sum Dog and learning your spellings this week.

It has been great to see smiling faces back in school this week. The children have had an excellent week and the have continued their brilliant work ethic from before the half-term. Great work everyone! The children have really enjoyed our class novel this week and they have produced some excellent work about the character Leaf. In maths we have been looking at addition using base 10. Yesterday we enjoyed Outdoor Classroom Day 2020. Time outdoors – on Outdoor Classroom Day and every day – will help us become happier and healthier, as well as helping us to form habits that will stick with us for life. We enjoyed Maths with sticks and stones, finding 10 more and 10 less; and creating bonfire art work. We have had a brilliant first week back! J

A new film version of The Sectret Garden has been released. To celebrate this a competition is being run by the RHS Campaign for School Gardening and Sky. You can draw, paint, create a collage or model or even plant up a minature garden. If you would like your child to be in the competition the entry needs to be on a single sheet of A4 paper. The entry needs to include the design elements and why they have chosen them.
Please send your child's entry into school by Monday 16th November and we will send them off.

Year 2 Home Practice 23rd October 2020

We have had a wonderful half term in Year 2. All of year 2 this week have made a great effort to be the best friend they can be, in the classroom and during play times – well done. In English this week the children have wrote about the novel Meerkat Mail. They did a brilliant performance in groups, acting out parts of the story on our outdoor stage. This week in Maths we have looked at our 2 x tables, counting in 2s and finding missing numbers. The children have done lots of learning all about ‘number bonds’ and they have loved being the quickest to say the correct bond. The children have celebrated L’Halloween in French. The children learnt all the body parts and took part in spooky French races. In Geography the children have enjoyed creating their own zoo maps. The maps have included key features and the children have used their brilliant imagination about what their zoo will be like. Today the children have had a Halloween learning day. We have done spooky number work in maths, created our own potion and instructions in writing, created monsters in Design Technology and used Pumpkins in Art. Well done to all the children (and parents) costumes were great today!

This week we have also taken part in an Intra Sports Competition. The children had to use their dribbling skills and race against the clock on an obstacle course. A great effort by everyone! Year 2 have had a fantastic week. Well done to everyone who has gone onto Sumdog and had a go at the challenges. This week we have focused on ‘being a great friend’ and Year 2 have enjoyed celebrating #HelloYellow day. In English this week we have looked at non-fiction writing and the children have researched all about Longton to write a leaflet. They all look great! For Maths we have continued to focus on number and place value. This week we have looked at finding different ways to make a number and exchanging using base ten. In French this week the children have learnt colours through the story ‘Pop le dinosaure mange toutes les couleurs’. They created their own colourful dinosaur using French colours – they look brilliant. In Geography we explored key features on a map and how we use them. We make sure we continue to take part in the daily mile to stay active at school.

- Children can play at any time.
- For the score to count, the Lancashire Maths Contest activity must be showing in the green panel on the left of the students screen when they click to start each game.
- Their scores are based on correct answers.
- A class score is the average of scores from all the children from that class who take part.
- To appear on the leader board, at least 5 children from your class need to play.
- As some children have limited computer access, every child is limited to 1000 Contest questions.

We have had another brilliant week in Year 2. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone has who logged onto Sumdog to have a go at the challenges. This consolidation of learning will really help the children to make excellent progress throughout the year. We are really starting to settle into the routines for school and our effort in class has been superb. The children have loved reading our class novel and this week we have produced some wonderful pieces of writing. We have also taken part in National Poetry Day. We wrote our own poem about Flat Stanley. In Maths we have continued to focus on number and place value. In French we have produced a poem based on the colours of the rainbow. We have created some great paintings in RE and we have continued to take part in the Daily Mile. We love staying healthy and active!

We have had a fantastic week in Year 2. In English we have been basing all our writing around the novel Burglar Bill. In Maths we have focused on number and place value. We have also enjoyed using outdoor areas to carry out science investigations. We love staying active and healthy in Year 2 so we have been completing the Daily Mile every day.
Reading
In Year 2 we aim to read for a minimum of 15 minutes every night and discuss the book with an older sibling or adult to help deepen your knowledge.
