Years 1 and 2- Forest School-Cooking on a Fire

Lesson: Learning Outside the Classroom

Class: Year 1 Year: 2022 - 2023

We have been learning how to light a fire safely. We watched Mrs Corbett light a fire using a flint and steel. Sometimes Mrs O'Neill helps Mrs Corbett, sometimes it is Mr Corbett but there are always 2 adults present when using fire. We learnt how to be safe around the fire and listened to a story about Firey Fox which intoduced us the the possible dangers and helped us to understand how to move around the fire circle.

In our first fire session we cooked on a wood fire and toasted marshmallows. In our second session we cooked on a fire of charcoal and wood so that we could bake bread and chocolate bananas in the embers.
