Year 4 - Science - Digestive System

Lesson: Science

Class: Year 4 Year: 2024 - 2025

Today we made a model of the digestive system. To represent the mouth, we mashed some banana, crackers and weetabix with some water, representing the saliva. We then poured this mixture to represent the food being swallowed down the oesophagus, into a plastic bag which represented the stomach. Inside the bag was orange juice to represent the acid which helps break the food down even more. After this, Miss Whiting squeezed some of the mixture into a pair of tights to represent the intestines. Anything that was squeezed out represented the nutrients from the small intestine, or water from the large intestine. The remaining mixture represented the stool, which was then excreted.
