Welcome to your End of Week Blog!

What a busy final week of the half term we have had in Year 6!

In English, we have continued to enjoy The Nowhere Emporium, with the story taking another dramatic turn! This week, we wrote some super descriptive pieces about the crumbling Nowhere Emporium, imagining the sights and sounds as the magical building began to fall apart around us. We focused on using similes to create vivid descriptions and help our readers picture the chaos and destruction. The children also worked hard to include all the new punctuation we have been learning, including semicolons, brackets and dashes, to add detail and variety to their writing. It has been lovely to see how much our writing has developed over the past few weeks. Well done, Year 6!

In Maths, we have completed our topic on division. Over the past few weeks, we have been developing our understanding of different division strategies, including the chunking method, and learning how to apply our multiplication knowledge to solve increasingly tricky calculations. This week, we brought all these skills together, thinking carefully about which methods are most efficient and how we can check our answers using the inverse operation. The children have made some great progress in their confidence and understanding. Super maths!

In History, we explored the Blitz and what life was like for people living in Britain during the German bombing campaigns of the Second World War. We learned about how people prepared for air raids, including the use of Anderson shelters, Morrison shelters, blackout curtains and gas masks. We discussed how these preparations helped to protect families and considered how frightening and disruptive everyday life must have been during this time.

In RE, we explored the Fall from Creation, learning about the story of Adam and Eve and the choices they made in the Garden of Eden. We discussed the important messages within the story, particularly the ideas of free will, temptation, responsibility and the consequences of our actions. The children then created posters to share their understanding of the story and the lessons we can learn from it today.

As we reach the end of our first half term in Year 6, we want to say a big well done to everyone for all their hard work and enthusiasm over the term so far. We have covered so much already, and it has been great to see the progress the children are making across the curriculum.

Have a lovely half-term holiday, everyone, and enjoy a very well-earned rest!
