Home Practice
Please complete the following tasks by next week:
Reading - Use your home reading to read every night for 30 minutes. You also have a reading diary that must be used for the title of the book and any challenges chosen. Lots have changed their book this week so well done on reading more this week!
All spellings are on Sumdog to practise for our test next Friday.

Counting: Which is quicker, counting up to 30 in ones or counting up to 300 in tens? Why?

Times Tables: This week there are 100 times table questions to practise on Sumdog!
Maths Practise: This week's learning is to continue to practise questions on addition and subtraction. For further Maths practise, enter the flluency competition which will focus on skills Sumdog has given them.
We have had another busy week in Year 6 with lots of great learning across the curriculum.
In English, we have planned, edited and published our own Wonder Rooms for the Book of Wonders from The Nowhere Emporium. We read a brilliant picture book called The Wonder by Faye Hanson for inspiration. The children really let their imaginations run wild, creating some incredibly inventive rooms and thinking carefully about how they could bring them to life for the reader. We are starting to see some excellent sentence openers, ambitious vocabulary and creative ideas coming through in our writing now. Well done, Year 6!
In Maths, we have been looking at addition and subtraction and exploring how we can use our number bond knowledge to make calculations easier. We have been using compensation and partitioning strategies to simplify our number work and thinking carefully about which method is most efficient. We also learned a very quick strategy for multiplying 2-digit numbers by 11. You might be quizzed on this one over the weekend!
In History, we learned more about the Jewish experience during the German expansion into Europe at the beginning of the Second World War. We read an account from the perspective of a young girl living at the time and discussed how life began to change for Jewish families. The children then used what they had learned to write their own sensitive first-person accounts, showing real thought and maturity in their work.
In Art, we have been exploring grid drawing and how artists can use grids to reproduce images accurately. The children showed great concentration as they focused on each individual section rather than the whole image. Next week, we will use these skills to scale up our creations, ready to begin turning our designs into 3D sculptures.
In RE, we had a really interesting discussion about the Big Bang and evolution, thinking about some of the big questions surrounding creation, science and our faith. The children shared some thoughtful opinions and asked some super questions. It was great to hear them listening to one another and confidently explaining their own ideas.
In PE, we have continued developing our invasion games skills, focusing on both attacking and defending. We looked at creating space, supporting teammates and working together effectively as a team. Everyone did a great job of encouraging one another and recognising how good communication can help the whole team improve.
