Year 6 – Baileys Court Primary School

Welcome to the Year 6 weekly blog.

This week in Year 6

English

The Phoenix Bird

In English we have been working hard to write our non-chronological reports, all about immortal objects. We have also completed lots of SATs practise and quizzes to help us consolidate our learning.

Maths

Decimals & Percentages - Math - Subject Guides at Nova Scotia Community College

This week, we have revised how to convert between measures and use these conversions to solve problems. We have also revised how to find fractions of amounts and convert between fractions, decimals and percentages.

RE

In RE, we have continued our new topic: 'To the ends of the earth'. We shared the story of doubting Thomas from John's gospel and created storyboards of the scripture.

Topic

In PSHE, we have been completing a My Happy Mind topic called 'Be Your Best!'. We have learned how to speak positively to ourselves and thought of some positive affirmations we could say to ourselves in SATs week. This topic is helping us to get ready for SATs!

In PE, we continued our striking and fielding topic by playing a game of rounders and practicing striking and fielding with a cricket bat and ball.

As part of our Faith in Action award, we have been working hard to create our final pieces of work. We have created some amazing art work, posters and books to showcase all of our hard work!

Homework - Kristina Stevenson's Classroom - SSD Public Website at Salem School District

Please complete the following tasks by Wednesday 6/05/26.

Reading - Use your home reading to read every night for 30 minutes. You also have a reading diary that must be used for the title of the book and any challenges chosen.

Books may be changed on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

Spelling -

Spellings this week are taken from the 2017 SATs Spelling test.

We will have our test on the 8/05/26

It is useful to write the words down on the spelling sheet, but you could also ask someone to call the words out and spell them out loud. Other ideas include, breaking the words up and writing them down in different colours (accommodate). You could look for words within words (accompany) or think of your own ways to remember the word, for example, spell it aloud using a mnemonic or tune.
