Please complete the following tasks by next Thursday:

Reading - Use your home reading to read every night for 30 minutes. You also have a reading diary that must be used for the title of the book and any challenges chosen.

Maths Challenges:

Sumdog

Counting:

This week, practise counting in decimal steps of 0.01 and 0.02.

Draw a line with some marks on it. You could write the numbers as you count up or down, then double check it to make sure you have said the correct numbers.

Start with different numbers and count up 10 numbers then back again in 0.01 and 0.02.

Times Tables: This week there are 100 times table questions to practise on Sumdog!

Maths Task: This week's learning is to practise questions about division which will help Year 6 to apply their learning from class this week.

This week in Year 6

Another busy week in Year 6 with lots of great learning across the curriculum!

In English, we have been focusing on formal writing as we began writing our own newspaper reports linked to The Nowhere Emporium. We explored the features of newspaper reporting and how we can adapt our language to suit a more formal style. We also looked at how we can use semicolons, brackets and dashes to add detail, organise our ideas and really level up our writing. It has been lovely to see the children becoming more confident in using these punctuation skills independently.

In Maths, we have been learning how to divide using the chunking method. The children have been applying their multiplication knowledge to help them tackle some tricky division calculations, thinking carefully about how to break numbers down into manageable chunks. There has been some excellent reasoning and problem-solving on show this week. Super maths!

In History, we learned all about evacuees during the Second World War. We explored why so many children had to leave their homes and families, what the evacuation process involved and how it might have felt to arrive somewhere completely unfamiliar. The children showed great empathy as we discussed the different experiences of evacuees and the challenges they faced during the war.

On Tuesday, we were delighted to welcome Christina Mitchell into Year 6 to work with the children on The Happy at School Project (THASP). We spent time exploring the importance of resilience and how we can respond positively when things become difficult. We revisited the project's five key aims: understanding our emotions, building resilience, learning from challenges, strengthening relationships and becoming our best selves. The children really enjoyed the session and shared some thoughtful ideas about how we can use these skills both in school and in our everyday lives. A big thank you to Christina for spending time with us!

In PE, we are nearing the end of our invasion games topic and have been putting all the skills we have learned into practice. Our focus this week has been on applying our attacking and defending skills in game situations, with a particular emphasis on teamwork and communication. It has been great to see how much the children have developed over the past few weeks, especially in the way they encourage one another and work together as a team.

Have a great weekend!
