Home practice

Please complete the following tasks by next Friday. 

Reading - Use your home reading to read every night for 30 minutes. You also have a reading diary that must be used for the title of the book and any challenges chosen. Books can be changed on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. 

Spelling -  Please practise the following spellings this week from the Y5/6 spelling list. All spellings are on Sumdog to practise for our test next Friday. 

Maths Challenges: 

Counting: This week we have had to count in tenths to complete our rounding work. Try to count in decimal steps of 0.1, 0.2 or 0.5. You could do this out loud or write it on a piece of paper.

You could draw a numberline, like we have done in class this week. Can you count up and down in decimal tenths? How far can you go?

Sumdog : This week there are times table questions to answer and a fluency competition to enter. Little and often is the key!

This week in Year 6

This week in English, we have been really enjoying The Nowhere Emporium. The children have already produced some fantastic pieces of writing, including a diary entry as Daniel and a character description written from the viewpoint of Mr Silver. Everyone is working hard to improve their writing and has been thinking carefully about their own individual targets. It has been great to see such a positive start and so many children already trying to make their writing even better.

In Maths, we have been comparing, ordering and rounding 7-digit numbers and numbers with up to 3 decimal places. The children have shown a really good understanding of place value and have listened brilliantly during lessons this week. They have worked hard to explain their reasoning and justify how they know one number is greater than or less than another.

In PE, we started our new invasion games topic with some great team activities. We talked about how powerful encouragement can be in a successful team and how working together can help everyone improve. It was brilliant to see the children supporting one another and showing such a positive attitude throughout the lesson.

In RE, we started our new Creation and Covenant topic. We looked at the different types of writing we can find in the Bible and discussed how the style of writing can change the meaning and impact of the words used. The children shared some thoughtful ideas and showed great curiosity during our discussions.

In History, we studied the rise of Hitler and explored how he came to power in Germany. We ordered the key events and discussed why they happened in the way they did, thinking carefully about cause and consequence. The children asked some excellent questions and showed a mature understanding of a very important part of our history topic.
