Firfield Primary School - Year 6

Welcome to the Year 6 weekly blog.

This week in Year 6

English

40,400+ Detective Stock Illustrations, Royalty-Free Vector Graphics & Clip Art - iStock | Investigation, Magnifying glass, Female detective

In English we have created our own detective characters, based on ourselves. We have also thought about who could be the culprit of the case of the missing Easter eggs in class, ahead of writing our own crime stories next week! We have also been revising how to use active and passive, modal verbs and phrases and clauses.

Maths

Circle Parts | ClipArt ETC

This week, we have continued our learning on statistics by learning about how to read and answer questions based on pie charts, bar graphs and line graphs. We have also learned how to label the parts of a circle and how to find the diameter of a circle from the radius.

RE

Our Lady at the Foot of the Cross | AirMaria.com

In RE, we have been reflecting on Mary's significance. We have explored how she shows faith and how Mary is our mother. We also learned how the scripture in John's gospel reveals different aspects of Jesus to us.

Topic

In Art, we continued our portrait topic by creating layered portraits inspired by Mike Barrett. We had to layer pencil, biro and watercolour to create a self-portrait.

In PE, we have been honing our teamwork skills by playing tag rugby and practising how to correctly pass and score a try.

Homework - Kristina Stevenson's Classroom - SSD Public Website at Salem School District

Please complete the following tasks by Wednesday

Reading - Use your home reading to read every night for 30 minutes. You also have a reading diary that must be used for the title of the book and any challenges chosen.

Books may be changed on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

Spelling -

Spellings this week are from the Y5/Y6 and the Y3/Y4 statutory spellings.

We will have our test on the 27/03/26

It is useful to write the words down on the spelling sheet, but you could also ask someone to call the words out and spell them out loud. Other ideas include, breaking the words up and writing them down in different colours (accommodate). You could look for words within words (accompany) or think of your own ways to remember the word, for example, spell it aloud using a mnemonic or tune.
