Year 6 Blog - Friday 8th July 2022

Date: 8th Jul 2022 @ 1:45pm

Welcome to another Year 6 blog. Year 6 completed their ‘Advanced Cycling’ course this week, which focused on how to keep safe whilst practising on our school playground. After all this practice, please continue to help your child learn how to keep safe and, if you think they are ready, take them on the road.

Just to note that this course does not allow the children to ride on the road - that is a decision up to the parent/carer.

This week in Year 6:

  • Rehearsals are coming along with more stage directions and dances being included. We are becoming excited to show you our production, in just a few weeks’ time.
  • In Maths, we have been improving our calculation knowledge with quicker times tables to help with large multiplications.
  • In English, we have learnt that Aiden’s uncle is really a villain and what that might mean for future of the story. We also wrote about our love of reading and what our favourite books have been.
  • In Music, we have used the time to give extra rehearsal practice to perfect the songs before we go into our final week of rehearsals.
  • In PSHE, we explored what a good friend is, what a good friend does and what a good friend does not do. This should help us to identify new friends when everyone transitions to high school.
  • In French, we practised the phonic sound et/er/ez. Then we practised our cafe conversations - Mr Hennigan, Head of Languages at All Hallows came in and he was very impressed with the children's pronunciation. Finally we watched the first episode of Le Fantome Cycliste - a drama related to the Tour de France.
  • In Science, we discussed the dangers of electricity, learnt how to represent circuits in symbols and we had a go at making simple circuits.
  • Finally, it was great to see the parents/grandparents who visited our class to celebrate the learning in our books. If you did not have chance to make it, do not worry, as all the books will be coming home in two weeks.

Home Practice

Please continue to rehearse these three tasks:

  1. Continue to learn all the words from your script and any acting parts you have been given.
  2. Learn all the songs so you do not need to read the lyrics – all 14 are uploaded on a separate blog named, ‘Joseph production song lyrics 2022’.
  3. French – please keep learning the song, 'Je suis un enfant de paix' on Youtube.
