Year 6 Blog - Friday 7th November 2025
Date: 6th Nov 2025 @ 8:02am

Welcome to the Year 6 weekly blog!
This week in Year 6
English

In English we have started our new novel, 'When The Sky Falls'. We have used our inference skills to explore what the themes of the book could be from the front cover and blurb. We have also explored what features an evacuee letter by reading WW2 letters from an evacuee to her parents. We then used our knowledge to help us write in role as Joseph to his Gran.
Maths
This week, we have started a new topic all about fractions. We have learned how to use common multiples to convert fractions so that they have the same denominator. We also learned how to use common factors to simplify fractions. We then applied this knowledge to add and subtract fractions.
RE

In RE, we have started our new topic 'Prophecy and Promise'. We have shared the story of the Annunciation in both Matthew's and Luke's gospel and compared the intent of each author in their writing.
Topic
In History, we learned about how Britain reacted to the start of WW2. We discussed the home front and created our own WW2 propaganda posters!
In Science, we started our new topic all about light. We investigated how light travels and discovered that it only ever travels in straight lines.
In French, we started our new topic about how to say the time. We learned the vocabulary of how to say each hour - Il est une heure / Il est deux heures / Il est trois heures etc.
In P.E., we started our new topic of hockey. We recapped how to hold and use the hockey stick correctly. We then practised passing in a relay game, as well as passing between a group of four - making sure to stop the ball before passing. After this, we paired up to do an accurate power pass through a set of cones. After six successful passes, we could take a further step back. See our gallery for some photos!
