Year 6 Blog - Friday 2nd May 2025
Date: 1st May 2025 @ 9:21am
Welcome to the Year 6 weekly blog.
This week in Year 6
English
In English we have been working hard to revise word class, tense, formality and punctuation! We have completed lots of SATs practise and quizzes to help us consolidate our learning.
Maths
This week, we have learned how to solve problems for measures and time. We have revised how to convert between measures and use these conversions to solve problems. We have also revised how to find fractions of amounts and convert between fractions, decimals and percentages.
RE
In RE, we have contunied our new topic: 'To the ends of the earth'. We have created book covers for John's gospel by thinking carefully about the intention of the gospel writer and what he wanted us to learn about Jesus. We have also shared 1 Cor 15:45-49 and discussed how Jesus is 'the new Adam'. We thought carefully about the similarities and differences between Jesus and Adam and created a symbolic image to show Jesus as the new Adam.
Topic
In PSHE, we have been completing a My Happy Mind topic called 'Be Your Best!'. We have learned how to speak positively to ourselves and how important getting enough sleep is. This topic is helping us to get ready for SATs!
In Art, we started our new topic all about chair design. We worked hard to take visual notes and be creative!
Please complete the following tasks by Wednesday 7/05/25.
Reading - Use your home reading to read every night for 30 minutes. You also have a reading diary that must be used for the title of the book and any challenges chosen.
Books may be changed on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
Spelling -
Spellings this week are taken from the 2017 SATs Spelling test.
We will have our test on the 9/05/25
It is useful to write the words down on the spelling sheet, but you could also ask someone to call the words out and spell them out loud. Other ideas include, breaking the words up and writing them down in different colours (accommodate). You could look for words within words (accompany) or think of your own ways to remember the word, for example, spell it aloud using a mnemonic or tune.
