Year 6 Blog - Friday 26th September 2025
Date: 25th Sep 2025 @ 8:01am
Welcome to the Year 6 weekly blog!
Thank you for all the Harvest donations that have been brought in this week! We are still collecting donations for the food bank next week.
If you have any spare, small plastic bottles at home, please could these be bought into class for a Science investigation next week?
This week in Year 6
English
In English, we have completed our work on the Nowhere Emporium. All of Year 6 have worked so hard on their amazing fantasy stories, including editing them into a final version. The children have also used their knowledge and skills from the topic to create their own independent stories about a new wonder - they definitely brought their imaginations to their work!
Maths
This week, we have learned about lots of strategies that we can use to solve addition and subtraction questions. We have worked hard on a range of number line strategies, such as compensation and bridging. Year 6 have also used a formal method to add and subtract whole numbers and decimals.
RE
In RE, we have shared Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’ and thought carefully about what message he taught us in this letter. We have recognised that we are stewards of creation and that we need to look after our beautiful word. The children wrote some beautiful prayers inspired by this letter. Year 6 have also worked hard to create some amazing posters to show how we should look after creation, making links to Laudato Si’ and the second story of creation.
Topic
In French we celebrated the European day of languages and learned all about why it is important to speak different languages.
In PE we are practising our netball skills. We have been learning how to shoot and use a chest pass to get into position. We have also been looking at how to defend our opponent from side on and attacking forward into a position.
In Music we have been recapping the notes E,,B,D and F. We have also been learning how to play the Autumn song on the glockenspiel.
