Year 6 Blog - Friday 24th June 2022

Date: 24th Jun 2022 @ 10:01am

Welcome to another Year 6 blog.

This week in Year 6:

• The dance leaders and the class did an excellent job leading the ‘Dance From the Heart Roadshow’ –There is a video for you to enjoy on St Oswald’s TV (YouTube channel).
• Everyone has become a ‘Mini Coach’ during lunch times to lead and coach fun activities for the Year 2s. This has worked incredibly well and will be continuing every Tuesday and Thursday lunch times.
• In Maths, we have been learning how to read coordinates in all four quadrants and started to reflect shapes in the y or x axis.
• In English, we have introduced a short story called, ‘Mr Bunny’s Chocolate Town’. Whilst reading the story, we have become the two main characters: Debbie (who is quite well spoken and wants the best for her home town) and Mr Bunny (who just wants to be Mayor by cheating his way through). Year 6 did a super job creating persuasive speeches for each one.
• We have continued with more rehearsals with everyone doing really well to remember all their lines. Keep working hard on this Year 6.
• In Music, we continued our rehearsal with all the songs for Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat. I have uploaded them onto the website (See previous blogs for copies of all the songs).
• In French, we practised lots of phonic sounds then we began to read a play-script set in a cafe.
• In Science, we looked at fossils and how they are formed. Then we considered the evidence they provide for evolution. We were like detectives - what can it tell us? How can the present living things help us to understand the past? What can we not tell from the evidence? Some children did great detective work and writing!
• Finally, we had a transition day at All Hallows’ where everyone met their form tutors in the morning and were treated to a performing arts showcase in the afternoon, led by some of St Oswald’s past pupils.

Home Practice

This week, there are still three activities to continue practising:
1. Continue to learn all the words from your script and any acting parts you have been given.
2. Keep learning as many of the songs as possible – all 14 are uploaded on a separate blog named, ‘Joseph production song lyrics 2022’.
3. French – please keep learning the song Je suis un enfant de paix on Youtube.

Online Saftey Update - Live Streaming

Many of our children access YouTube and TikTok as their primary source of online content. Live streamers are becoming ever more popular with children and young people.

Live streaming is the term used to describe the broadcast of a real time video from a mobile device, tablet or games console. Many live streaming apps have functionality for interactions from viewers, such as commenting, live chats and sending reactions during the broadcast.

In this guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as online grooming, privacy & security and online reputation. Also, be aware of age ratings on any platforms you allow your children to use.
