Year 6 – Baileys Court Primary School

Welcome to the Year 6 weekly blog!

This week in Year 6

English

The Battle of Britain How the RAF Fended Off the Luftwaffe in 1940 – AVI-8 Timepieces

In English we have continued our unit on persuasive battle speeches. We edited our D-Day speeches and then researched all about the Battle of Britain for our own independent speeches. We imagined that we were Winston Churchill addressing the nation over the radio. We were all really proud of our work!

Maths

Algebra Vector Stock Illustrations – 28,130 Algebra Vector Stock Illustrations, Vectors & Clipart - Dreamstime

This week, we have continued our learning in algebra. We have learned how to express a missing number problem algebraically and find the value of a missing number. We have also explored how to find pairs of missing values with and without a total.

RE

Sisters of Mercy — Holy Angels

In RE, we have explored how some women, inspired by Mary's 'yes' to God, may be inspired to become nuns. We researched about the Holy Order 'Sisters of Mercy' and created beautiful leaflets with what we discovered.

As part of the Jubilee Celebration day, we have written postcards of hope and also designed our own jubilee bunting.

Topic

In PSHE, we learned about rights and responsibilities and discussed the rights of a child.

In Science, we discovered how we see. We learned about the eye and how it works. We also discussed how we see because light reflects off objects and into our eyes. We made some amazing posters about what we had learned!

In Computing, we started our new topic on 3D modelling. We learned how to add shapes to our workspace and how to view a shape from different perspectives.
