Year 6 | Carnforth School

Welcome to the Year 6 weekly blog!

This week in Year 6

English

Normandy landings - Wikipedia

In English we have been learning all about how to write a persuasive battle speech. We have investigated what features a persuasive speech needs to have to be effective and applied these to our own writing. We have also researched D-Day, so that we could understand the context for our writing. We have worked hard to write in role as a captain inspiring his men before the battle.

This week, we have completed our fractions unit by learning how to find a fraction of an amount by dividing by the denominator and multiplying by the numerator. We have also investigated how to find a percentage of a number. In our new algebra topic, we have found missing values by comparing similarities and differences.

RE

The Canticle of Mary (Magnificat) - Jen Norton Art Studio

In RE, we have shared the Magnificat together. We created some beautiful artwork inspired by Mary's message that God's love can turn the world upside down! We also listened to different songs based on the Magnificat and discussed how they linked to Luke's gospel.

Topic

In History, we learned about the home front in WW2. We researched all about rationing, evacuation and the role of women to create some amazing information texts.

In Computing, we discussed what was acceptable to share online and how we could react to different scenarios of information being shared.

This week, we also all participated in a 'Freddie Fit' session. We enjoyed keeping fit and working on our teamwork skills.
