Year 5 have worked very hard this week with some tricky learning – well done!
In English the class have continued to practise listening and reading out loud from the novel called, ‘Street child’, by Berlie Doherty. They have written a letter from Jim to his sisters, describing the workhouse and using complex sentences and ambitious vocabulary. The class also practised using parenthesis in sentences this week.
In Maths Year 5 have been continuing to work hard on fractions, including comparing and ordering fractions with different denominators and also simplifying fractions. Well done Year 5.

In computing, the class started viewing and manipulating computer databases. They developed their learning on how to sort data by various fields.
In PE, the class have been progressing in their gymnastics skills, including mirror shapes, matched shapes, counter balance and counter tension. The children have been working in pairs to create sequences to showcase a variety of skills. This week the focus was on core strength and using the correct postures.
Finally, in art, the class have continued to explore the topic of set building for stage and screen. They have been creating detailed sketches of the elements that will make up their Victorian workhouse sets.
