Year 5 have shown a great attitude to learning this week – well done!

In English the class have continued to share the new novel called, ‘Street child’, by Berlie Doherty. They have written a report on the pros and cons of children working in the Victorian era and explored the variety of jobs available to children. They have also continued to practise when to use possessive apostrophes in writing.

In Maths Year 5 started a new topic on creating equivalent fractions and comparing fractions. Everyone has put 100% effort into this tricky subject. Well done Year 5.

In RE this week, Year 5 have been reflecting on the meaning of Jesus’ greatest commandments of love God and love people, and how they apply to their lives.

In computing, the class started a new topic on databases. They had to work in groups to sort data about animals, using paper records containing a variety of data fields.

In science, there has been much enthusiasm about our new topic on the solar system. The children have really engaged with this topic and are busy finding out all sorts of fascinating facts about our planets and sun.

Finally, in art, the class have started to explore the topic of set building for stage and screen. Over the next few weeks the children will create their own set of a Victorian workhouse, relating to the class novel ‘Street Child’.

Well done Year 5 on another great week of discovery!
