It has been a great week filled with lot of exciting learning.

In maths we have been using the written method to add and subtract. It is really important that we know our number facts so that we can calculate quickly and accurately. Please practise these at home.

In English we have continued reading our class novel Room 13. This is a suspense story so we have been looking at different ways the author builds suspense. We then wrote our own suspense story. We tried to use as many different techniques as we could to make the reader feel worried and scared. Some of the techniques included:

Don't reveal the threat e.g. a dark figure

Rhetorical questions e.g. Was something following her?

Reveal the character's thoughts e.g. She wondered if this was all just a terrible dream.

Cliff hanger e.g. There was nobody there, unless...

Suspenseful vocabulary e.g. murky, gloomy, staggering, dark, whisper.

Everybody did such an amazing job writing their suspense stories!

In PE we did some indoor athletics including long jump, hop skip jump, high jump, and speed bounce. Mrs Cookson was very impressed!

In DT we sampled some Greek food. This was to help us prepare to design and make our own Greek snack which we will be doing over the next couple of weeks. Most of us enjoyed the feta cheese, pitta breads and tzatziki. The olives weren't very popular. You can see us carrying out our sensory evaluation of the food here. We focussed on the appearance, smell, texture, and taste.

This week in French, we started our new topic of ‘Les Émotions’. We started the lesson by going through the vocabulary and discussing the differences between the pronunciation for masculine and feminine adjectives. We then wrote these in our books, translating what they mean. To check our understanding, we chose the right picture for each emotion shown and then started a game of ‘Qui veut gagner 1200€?’ (Who wants to win €1200?) where every correct answer from a multiple choice question would ‘win’ €100. This week was a practice, we will complete this again next week to see if we can remember the vocabulary.

In RE we have been learning about Judaism. We learnt about a special feast called the Passover. We discovered why and how the Passover is celebrated. Each year during spring the Jewish people get ready to celebrate the Passover or Pesach. Jewish people remember the story of how God delivered them from slavery in Egypt, how God still takes care of them and how there is still the need for freedom in some places of the world.
