Year 4 Blog Thursday 23rd October 2025
Date: 23rd Oct 2025 @ 8:32am
Welcome to your weekly blog
We have had a brilliant half term in Year 4 and worked really hard!
Our learning this week
In English, we interpreted a character’s feelings in different parts of the story.
We attempted to explain how we felt using description as well as a variety of sentence openers.
In addition, we wrote a character description of Kensuke.
We wrote words to describe his character and then backed up why we thought this using evidence from the text.
In Maths, we drew bar charts to present data.
We needed to look carefully at the scale given and draw the bars accurately.
Additionally, we interpreted data and solved one-step problems from information presented in bar charts.
In RE, we listened to a story about the live of Oscar Romero.
We then considered how his life and work was an example of faith made active in love.
In PSHE, we learnt to recognise that feelings can change over time and range in intensity.
We are learning strategies to help us manage and respond to feelings appropriately and proportionally.
In our Art lesson, we completed our retelling of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by sketching the story rather than using words.
Some of us also added oil pastels to our sketches.
Have a look in our gallery.
Home Practice
As it is half term, there is no Home Practice.
However, please try and read every single day as this really helps unlock your learning.
In addition, please practise your tables using the games on Hit the Button and Rockstars.
Little and often is the key to success.
Poetry Recital Competition
In class, we have both performed and written some poetry.
It is a statutory requirement in the National Curriculum that children learn to recite poems from heart.
With this in mind, we are entering a poetry recital competition against local schools – this is to be held at Priory Academy in November.
We are therefore asking all the children in Year 4 to learn a poem over the half term holiday – a copy has been sent home with your child and a copy is attached to the blog.
After half term, we will hold an internal competition and one person will go forward to the local competition.
Further details will follow in due course.
