Our Learning this week
In English, we learnt about subordinating conjunctions – how to identify them in a sentence, where they are used and what their job is.
We also learnt an acronym to help us remember some subordinating conjunctions (AWhITEBUS).
In Maths, we revised and learnt more about the formal written method of addition.
We added 4 digit numbers together, including exchanging.
We then extended our learning to identify missing digits in column addition calculations.
In RE, we started our new topic – Prophecy and Promise.
We began by showing an understanding of what a prophet is, drawing on Elijah as an example and retelling the story of Elijah’s encounter with God using symbols.
You can see some examples of our work in our gallery.
In Geography, we learnt about the water cycle and how water travels around our world.
We watched a video to explain the journey of a water droplet and then labelled a diagram to show our understanding using some new vocabulary – evaporation, condensation, groundwater and precipitation.
In Science, we started our new topic by creating a mind map of what we already know about electricity.
We also discussed key vocabulary and the electrical appliances we use at home and at school.
We learnt that big appliances usually need to be plugged in and run on electricity whilst smaller appliances (which are often portable) can be powered by batteries.
In P.S.H.E, we learnt more about managing emotions and practising strategies to calm ourselves down.
We explored our 3 key places and identified and talked about who our trusted adults are – people we can turn to when we wish to share our feelings.
In Art, we started our new topic ‘Exploring Pattern’.
We started by making a sensory drawing using a needle.
Take a look at some examples in our gallery.
This week, we also enjoyed outdoor learning with leaves.
Have a look at the pictures in our gallery.
