Welcome to our first blog of this school year!

We have had a super week! We have put lots of effort into our lessons and settled well into the new routines in Year 4.

Home Practice

Reading

We are still in the process of giving out books to all the children in Year 4.

In the meantime, please try and read for 20 minutes each evening to an adult at home and discuss what you have read.

Sumdog challenges

A maths challenge based on the x2 x5 x10 x3 x4 and x8 times tables

A maths challenge based on recognising place value in 4 digit numbers

This week in Year 4

English

In English, we read the poem The Magic Box by Kit Wright.

We used the poem as inspiration for writing our own verses, explaining what we would put in our own ‘magic box’.

Maths

In Maths, we started exploring place value and played exchange up to help us understand there are ten 1’s in 10 and ten 10’s in 100.

RE

We started our RE topic – ‘Creation and Covenant’ We read Genesis 12 Verses 1-5 and focussed on the story of Abraham and his covenant with God.

Next week we will explore this further.

PE

We started our ‘invasion games’ unit by practising our throwing and catching skills using a chest pass and a bounce pass.

We then put our skills into practice in a game of netball.
