Our Learning This Week

In English this week, we learnt more about the different types of pronouns – personal and possessive.

Following this, we selected appropriate pronouns and used them effectively in a piece of writing.

In Maths, we consolidated our learning about halving 4 digit numbers.

In addition, we divided numbers using a mental strategy of partitioning.

We found this tricky, however, having a secure knowledge of our tables helped with this.

In RE, we learnt about Holy Week and compared the events of Palm Sunday with the agony in the garden of Gethsemane.

In Science, we identified the different types of teeth in humans and their functions:

Incisors – cutting and biting

Canines – tearing and ripping

Premolars – holding and crushing

Molars – grinding food

Wisdom – act as extra molars

In our ‘Our Happy Mind’ lesson, we learnt what makes a good friend and how friends can help us solve problems.

We also showed an understanding that it’s important to show gratitude to friends.

In PE, we demonstrating running and passing a rugby ball.

We then practised using a simple tactic in a game.

You can see some photos in our gallery.

In Geography, we learnt more about the 4 layers of the rainforest.

These are called – the forest floor, understory, canopy and emergent layer.

We researched the condition, plants and animals found in each layer, then wrote information about each layer in our books.

In Forest School, we talked about how to keep safe around the fire. We toasted our marshmallow, when we were invited to do so. Delicious!

On Friday morning, we also attended the parish mass and stations of the cross.

Many thanks to the children from Year 4 who read the bidding prayers so beautifully.
