Home practice

Reading

Please read for 20 minutes each evening to an adult at home. 

Discuss what you have read with an adult. Look up any words you are unsure of in a dictionary.

 

Spellings

These are your spellings which will be tested next week – please practise them

Counting

This week, please practise counting in 10’s  

For example, start at 0 and count to 120 and back again

Now try counting in 10’s from 158 to 238 and back again

158   168   178    etc                 238   228   218

                  

Times tables and Number facts

Please practise your individual tables target for your test next week.

It is crucial that you learn all of your table facts and your number facts as this will help you with many aspects of maths.

Why not challenge someone else in Year 4 to a ‘Rock Slam’. This is a competition and you can set a score for them to beat. You don’t need to be online at the same time.

A maths challenge based on adding and subtracting numbers within 100.

This will help with basic maths skills of quickly adding and subtracting numbers mentally.

In English, we analysed the features of an informal letter.

We then planned and wrote our own letter from Michael to his best friend Eddie, which outlined the countries we had visited and the adventures we had had during our sailing trip around the world.

 

In Maths, we added and subtracted multiples of 10 to 3 digit numbers (eg 342 + 250 and 528 – 340).

In addition, we used counters and a number line to solve addition or subtraction calculations which required mental partitioning.

In RE, we talked about how Abraham is a model of prayer and how we can use prayer in our everyday lives.

In Science, we recapped the 5 animal groups (amphibians, birds, fish, mammals and reptiles) and then used observable features to group and classify vertebrates.  

 

In History, we became ‘archaeologists’.

We looked at various Roman artefacts and considered what they are, what they may have been made of, who might have used them and what they tell us about the Romans.

We had a very interesting discussion.

 

In PE, we continued to practise our bounce and chest passes during mini games of 4 attackers v 2 defenders using only a third of the netball court.

We then concentrated on both the throws, and how to be an effective attacker or defender, in full court games.
