Year 4

Home Practice 15th July 2022

Welcome to this week’s blog. Here’s what we have been learning this week ….

In English, we drew and labelled a picture of Bill’s playground using evidence from the text.  In addition, we looked at the features of a playscript. Following this, we wrote our own playscript using Chapter 3 of the novel and then acted this out.

In Maths, we learnt different strategies for mental addition.  We practised these using a numberline. We also practised our tables playing different games in class.

In RE, we continued our topic, God’s people.  We learnt about the life of Oscar Romero and Saint Teresa of Calcutta and discussed what made these people extraordinary.

During our PSHE lesson we learnt what ‘risks’ were and how to assess and manage risk in different situations. Following this, we discussed how we can be influenced by our peers and how to manage this influence.

In Science, we continued our topic of ‘Teeth and digestion’.  We revised the different types of teeth in our mouths and their function. We also set up an experiment to find out what damages teeth. We used boiled eggs and left them in different liquids to see what effect the different liquids would have on the egg shells. We are looking forward to finding out the results next Monday.  We also learnt the names of the basic parts of the digestive system, labelled a diagram and described how the digestive system works.

In Art, we sketched different patterns and shaded them in carefully.  We repeated the same pattern 4 times and and experimented using different grades of pencil. We were impressed with our sketches and how different pencils made different marks.

We also had great fun at the Tough Kidder event on Wednesday afternoon. Thank you for the sponsorship money, this is being put towards the firepit for our Forest School.
