Reading

Please read for 20 minutes each evening to an adult at home.

Discuss what you have read with an adult.

Can you summarise what you have read previously or make a prediction about what you think will happen next?

You can practise your tables on TTRockstars, Hit the Button and timestables.co.uk

Please also practise your number facts.

You can practise your number facts on Hit the Button

It is crucial that you learn all of your table facts and your number facts as this will help you with many aspects of maths.

Our Learning this week

In English, we learnt more about subordinating conjunctions and practised using them at the beginning of a sentence.

We needed to remember to include a comma after the subordinate clause.

Have a look at some ‘human sentences’ in our gallery.

In Maths, we revised and learnt more about the formal written method of subtraction.

We subtracted 4 digit numbers from 4 digit numbers, including exchanging.

In RE, we read Matthew 3:1-12 and Mark 1:1-8 which both introduce John the Baptist.

We discussed John the Baptist’s message and what he was wearing, and considered how this was similar in style to the prophet Elijah.

In Science, we constructed and named the different parts of a simple circuit – these are the words we used – motor, bulb, crocodile clips, wires, battery or cell, buzzer, and switch.

See our gallery for some pictures of a simple circuit to light a bulb.

In Art, we continued our topic ‘Exploring Pattern’.

We were given a ‘rule’ and then followed and developed our own pattern from this.

Take a look in our gallery for some examples.

In Geography, we discussed and explained what a river is.

We found out that river usually begins high up on a hill or mountain and the water then flows downhill due to gravity.

The river then grows in size as other streams feed into it.

Finally, the river water flows into the sea or a large lake – this is the mouth of the river and where the journey ends.

This week we were also visited by Freddy Fit.

We enjoyed being put through our paces with fun workouts, and learning how to keep our minds and bodies fit and healthy.

Have a look at some pictures in our gallery.
