Our learning this week
English
In English, we started a new novel – Bill’s New Frock.
We began by looking carefully at the cover and making predictions about the story. We then read the blurb and considered whether this changed or added to our prediction.
In addition, we retold some of the first chapter as a diary entry trying to include lots of thoughts and feelings.
Maths
In Maths, we used a fraction wall to help us find equivalent fractions.
We also measured and drew lengths in m / cm and mm – this included numbers to 2 decimal places.
RE
In RE, we described what is meant by the ‘communion of saints’ and recognised that the Church teaches that Mary has a special place within the communion as Queen of Heaven.
PSHE
In PSHE, we learnt how to spot dangers and stay safe at home and when we are out and about.
We drew a comic strip about a character to give suggestions about how to stay safe.
Science
In Science, we constructed and interpreted a variety of food chains.
In addition, we observed what had happened to the eggs we placed in different liquids last week.
On the basis of the results, we discussed how these drinks would affect our teeth if we didn’t brush our teeth or look after them properly.
Computing
In Computing, we continued programming using code.org.
We built a game where the player controls a paddle and learns how events, such as pressing arrow keys, cause actions to happen – this was within the context of a basketball computer game.
History
In History, we continued comparing life in Sparta and Athens.
We then wrote a balanced argument to explain which city state we would rather live in based on our historical knowledge.
Art
In Art, we used our perseverance, determination and inventiveness to create a ‘nest’ out of different materials.
We worked hard to create a nest shape and then our instinct and intuition to create the sculpture.
Take a look at our pictures in our gallery.
