This week in Year 3

We have had a brilliant week in Year 3! Today, everyone was amazing at our Tough Kidder event, every single child completed the course with determination and big smiles. Thank you so much for all your sponsorship and support!

This week in English, we have been loving our work on The BFG. The children have been writing newspaper reports detailing the Bloodbottler’s break-in at the BFG’s home. They worked hard to include eye-catching headlines, formal language and key facts to report the event clearly. We then used AI to publish our writing and create professional-looking newspaper articles. The children used these published versions to proofread, edit and improve their own work. It was fantastic to see them reflecting on their writing and making thoughtful improvements. Check out our gallery to see some of the finished reports.

In Maths, we have been learning how to compare angles and identify whether they are greater than, less than or equal to one another. We then applied this knowledge when drawing and investigating 2D shapes, thinking carefully about the angles needed to create different polygons.

In Geography, we revisited our learning about climate zones and the continent of South America. The children used maps and atlases to recall key information and began making links between climate, location and the physical features found across the continent.

In History, we learned all about Ramesses II, one of the most famous pharaohs of Ancient Egypt. We explored his achievements, the monuments he built and why he became known as Ramesses the Great. This has prepared us well for our upcoming visit to Bolton Museum, which we are all very excited about.

In RE, we have been reading about Exodus and learning how Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. The children particularly enjoyed learning and singing a song about Moses and the Jews’ escape from Egypt, which helped bring this important story to life.

Check out our galleries to see some of the fantastic learning we have captured this week.
