Year 3 Friday blog 2nd May 2025
Date: 1st May 2025 @ 2:47pm
Welcome to your Friday update
It has been a lovely week in school with the fine weather allowing us to take lots of our learning outside.
Home Practice
Keep up with the great reading at home. We can see a lot of children showing interest in some fab series of books including, Dogman, Harry Potter and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Lots of super future reading habits being formed!!
We have set some maths challenges on Sumdog. Please ensure these are completed as they will boost fluency in the key learning that will support your child in all their future maths learning.
Keep counting, a secure knowledge of the number system will also help secure new concepts and learning.
Practice counting in 2s, 4s, and 8s. Forwards and backwards. What patterns can you spot?
Here are your spellings. We are looking at the statutory words for Year 3 this week. To remember these spellings its useful to remember the tricky bits.
fruit, grammar, group, guard, guide, heard, heart, height, history, imagine, increase, important, interest, island, knowledge, learn, length, library
This week in Year 3
We have been enjoying our new RE topic, To the ends of the Earth. We have been reading the Road to Emmaus where Jesus appeared to his disciples. We retold the story in comic form, looked at some art inspired by the story and created our own pieces of art. Check out our gallery.
In English we have been reading about Bertie, the little boy from Africa and his home. We wrote some fantastic descriptions of the watering hole and all the animals that he could see from his compound. We have been learning about how we can edit our work and improve it through drafting. Have a look at some of our finished pieces.
In Maths we have been learning how to subtract 3 digit numbers using the column addition method. To understand this method and use it accurately, it is important that everyone knows their number facts to 10. One minute maths is a great app for practising these as well as your times tables. In History we have been exploring the Ancient Egyptian timeline and comparing it to the Stone Age in Britain. We will be learning lots about Egyptian culture in the coming weeks. The children are very excited.
In PE we have been playing cricket and practising our striking, fielding and catching skills and on Friday we went outside for some orienteering. Everyone showed great teamwork to find all the stations!
