Welcome to Your Friday Blog!
Home Practice
Keep changing your books regularly and read for at least 15-20 minutes every night!
Well done to everyone who completed their Sumdog challenges and even had some time to practise on the Sumdog Training. Three new challenges have been added today. Remember, little and often every night will benefit your children with their learning in school.
Try and do a little counting at home as well. This will promote number fluency and understanding. There are lots of counting games here at ictgames.com that we use in school. You will also find lots of counting songs on YouTube.
We have given out your spellings to practice for next week's test. In our spelling lessons this week we have been revisiting our spelling strategies. We have been breaking our words into syllables to help us spell more accurately and using what we already know to spell new words.
What a brilliant week we’ve had in Year 3!
In English, we finished our class novel, The Twits. We loved the story and write some brilliant book reviews this week. Next week we begin our Wooly Mammoth stories!
In Maths, we learned how to measure in cm and mm and even looked at perimeter. Super problem solving!
In RE, we have continued to explore our Creation and Covenant topic, thinking about human dignity and its links to the creation story. Everyone shared some really thoughtful ideas and wrote some beautiful responses to our scripture.
In Science, we designed and carried out an experiment to test whether longer arms mean longer throws! Using iPads, we measured our arm lengths, then went outside to test our throws. Check out our gallery.
In Art, we used charcoal to create depth through light and shade. We studied 3D shapes and practised using shadow to create the illusion of depth. You can see our artists hard at work in the galleries!
In Computing, we explored some fantastic coding programs on code.org. The children worked through challenges with determination and even had a go at fixing their own ‘bugs’. This linked brilliantly to our Wonderful World assembly, where we learned about Grace Hopper, a pioneer of computer coding who even coined the phrase “a bug”.
