Home Practice

Continue with your amazing reading at home and remember to change your school reading books regularly, we have lots of great books to choose from.

Your home spellings are all a recap some of the common words from Key Stage 1. Some of these can be decoded with phonics but it will also help to learn them by sight. Lots of regular practise will help this.

We will give out copies of the spellings on Monday but they are availbale to practise on Sumdog.

On Sumdog we have set the usual maths challenges covering the learning well meet will meet next week. We have also set a fluency competition which will practise the key skills and number facts your child needs to work on.

Keep counting, you can access all our songs and counting games on our previous posts.

This week in Year 3.

What a brilliant first week back we’ve had in Year 3! It’s been lovely to see everyone looking so smart and ready to learn in their summer uniforms – a great start to the new term.

In English, we’ve been reading the beautiful book Dear Earth as part of our preparations for our Wonderful World assembly. We were inspired by the heartfelt letters in the story and decided to write our own letters to Earth, sharing our hopes, promises and appreciation for our planet. We then published them with care – have a look in our gallery to see some of our lovely finished pieces!

Dear Earth

In Maths, we’ve been revisiting column addition and doing some clever thinking around missing numbers. The children have shown great perseverance and are becoming more confident each day with explaining their reasoning.

Our History learning is now taking us back to the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt. This week, we explored an Ancient Egyptian timeline and began to learn about some of the key events and people we’ll be discovering this term. We’ve added a fact file below. This includes some of the learning well meet this term.

On Friday, we had a fantastic yoga session with Katie. The children showed brilliant strength and balance as they moved through different poses. It was such a calm and focused way to finish our week.

In RE, we’ve begun our new topic: To the Ends of the Earth, which will take us on a journey through Pentecost and the early Church. We started by looking at the different types of writing found in the Bible and spent some time exploring the books of the New Testament.

As part of our My Happy Mind learning, we focused on the importance of considering other people’s opinions – part of our ‘Relate’ topic. There have been lots of thoughtful discussions, and the children are already making brilliant links to real-life situations. Don’t forget, you can follow along with what we’re learning through the Happy Mind Parent App.
