This week in Year 3
We’ve had another busy and enjoyable week in Year 3!
In English, we have continued our journey to Jo’burg and the children are really enjoying the story. This week, we have been focusing on using noun phrases to improve our sentences, particularly when describing the beginning of the children’s journey. We have seen some lovely writing, with the children really starting to add detail and bring their ideas to life.

In Maths, we have been revisiting the formal written methods for addition and subtraction. This is a tricky area, so we have spent lots of time practising and building our confidence. The children have shown great perseverance and determination with this new learning.
In RE, we have been learning about the sacraments, with a particular focus on Holy Communion. We watched a video of children making their First Holy Communion and the class responded with some thoughtful and reflective ideas about what this special sacrament means.
We have also been taking part in the Big Lent Walk this week. The children have shown great enthusiasm and commitment, again, have a look at our gallery to see us in action.

In Art, we explored line drawing techniques. The children experimented with different types of lines to create depth and texture in their work. There are some fantastic pieces. Check out our gallery!
In French, we have been learning how to say a range of colours, as well as how to say “I like” and “I don’t like.” The children did a brilliant job practising their speaking.
In PE, we continued developing our tag rugby skills. This week, we focused on games without the ball, working on movement, positioning and teamwork. It was great to see such strong team spirit and encouragement for one another.

In History, we learned all about hieroglyphics. The children loved writing their names using hieroglyphs and learning how they were used in Ancient Egypt.
