Home Practice
Keep changing your books regularly and read for at least 15-20 minutes every night!
Well done to everyone who continued with their Sumdog practise over the holidays! Three new challenges have been added today. Remember, little and often every night will benefit your children with their learning in school. We have set a times table and number challenge this week.
Try and do a little counting at home as well. This will promote number fluency and understanding. There are lots of counting games here at ictgames.com that we use in school. You will also find lots of counting songs on YouTube.
We have given out your home spellings to practice for next week's test. In our spelling lessons this week we have been revisiting our spelling strategies. We have been breaking our words into syllables to help us spell more accurately and using what we already know to spell new words. Your spellings this week are...
yellow, green, blue, red, white, orange, purple, eighty, turquoise, two, three, four, eight, twelve, eleven, thirteen, thirty, nineteen
This week in Year 3
In RE, we started our new branch, Galilee to Jerusalem. We explored Matthew’s Gospel and learned about how and why it was written. The children listened carefully and shared some thoughtful ideas during our discussions.
In English, we have been reading Orion and the Dark by Emma Yarlett. Over the next few weeks, we will be exploring lots of stories and poetry linked to the theme of the dark, making connections with our science learning. This week, the children wrote some super character descriptions, using conjunctions to expand and develop their ideas.

In Maths, we have had a very busy week. The children have been learning how to bridge 100 in addition and subtraction, revisiting rounding to the nearest 100, and we also introduced the 8 times table. Everyone worked really hard and showed great focus when tackling these new challenges.
In Science, we completed our rocks topic by learning all about how fossils are formed. The children were fascinated by this and showed a really good understanding of the process, asking some excellent questions along the way. A fantastic end to a great topic. Next week we will begin our light learning.

Next Monday, we will be starting Forest School with Mrs Corbett. Please make sure children come to school with appropriate footwear, as we will be outdoors whatever the weather.
