Year 3 Friday 3rd July 2026
Date: 3rd Jul 2026 @ 4:28pm
Welcome to your Friday blog.
We have had a jam packed week of learning!

Home Practice
Keep changing your books regularly and read for at least 15-20 minutes every night!
Well done to everyone who completed their Sumdog challenges. Two new challenges have been added today and we have been entered itno the North West competition. Remember, little and often every night will benefit your children with their learning in school. We have set a division challenge this week as we are learning all about division next week.
Try and do a little counting at home as well. This will promote number fluency and understanding. There are lots of counting games here at ictgames.com that we use in school. You will also find lots of counting songs on YouTube.
We have given out your home spellings to practice for next week's test. All our spellings this week end in the -ure and are revision of some spring learning.
This week in Year 3
This week in English, we have been enjoying The Butterfly Lion. We have been exploring how ambitious vocabulary choices can improve our writing and bring our descriptions to life. This week, we described the watering hole outside Bertie's compound and wrote about how he rescued the little lion cub. The children produced some fantastic descriptive writing, using powerful adjectives and expanded noun phrases to paint a picture for the reader.

In Maths, we have been continuing our work on decimals, learning how to compare and sort them. The children showed great confidence when explaining their reasoning and ordering decimals from smallest to largest using their place value knowledge.
In History, we revisited all of our learning from this half term with a class quiz. We have been so impressed with all of the sticky learning and just how much the children have remembered. They recalled key events, important people and fascinating facts from our Ancient Egypt topic. What brilliant historians!

In DT, we started the design process for our new food technology topic on sandwich making. The children created some super designs and produced colourful posters to showcase the ingredients they would like to use. Next week, we will be sending home recipe cards for the children to complete before our final cooking session.

A huge well done to all of our Rock Steady Rockers on their fantastic performance on Friday. We thoroughly enjoyed every song and were incredibly proud of the confidence and enthusiasm shown by all of the children.

In PE, we had a fantastic rounders session, working together in teams to develop our batting, fielding and teamwork skills. It was lovely to see everyone encouraging one another and giving their best effort throughout the lesson.
