It’s been another busy and brilliant week in Year 3!

Home Learning
Reading – Please read every night for at least 15 minutes. Don’t forget to record it in your reading diary!
Maths – We’ve set two challenges on Sumdog this week. They focus on shape and fluency. The fluency challenge is table vs table. Good luck!
Spellings – This week’s spellings are all the year 3/4 statutory words. Don't try and learn them all! choose a few to practise!
This week in Year 3
In English, we have continued our Journey to Jo’burg work. The children have been developing their descriptive writing, thinking carefully about how to bring the setting and events to life for the reader. We worked on using expanded noun phrases and ambitious vocabulary to add detail and interest to our sentences. It has been great to see the children building flow in their writing and really immersing themselves in the story.

In Maths, we have been learning all about fractions. We explored equivalent fractions and how different fractions can represent the same value. The children then moved on to working with mixed numbers, showing a good understanding of how these relate to mixed numbers. We also began adding and subtracting fractions, which proved tricky at times, but the children showed real determination and made excellent progress through practice and discussion.

In RE, we have been learning about the Communion Rite. The children showed a growing understanding of this important part of the Mass and shared some thoughtful ideas during our discussions.
In PE, we continued developing our tag rugby skills. There was some fantastic teamwork on display, with the children supporting each other and working well together during games.

We have also been taking part in the Big Lent Walk and we are incredibly proud to say that we smashed our target, walking an amazing 569km as a class. What a fantastic achievement, well done, everyone!
In History, we explored Egyptian gods. The children created some excellent fact posters to show their learning, please take a look at our gallery to see their work.
