This week in Year 3
We’ve had another fantastic week of learning in Year 3, full of teamwork, creativity and brilliant effort across the board.
In English, we read the part of The Butterfly Lion where Bertie becomes a true hero, saving the men in his regiment and receiving the Victoria Cross. We worked on retelling this exciting section of the story, focusing on writing our ideas in the right order and making our writing flow smoothly. Some brilliant storytelling on display!
In maths, we’ve been busy solving multiplication and division problems. The focus this week was on choosing the most efficient methods, and everyone showed great reasoning and confidence when explaining their choices. Well done, mathematicians!
Our RE learning took us deep into the mystery of the Holy Trinity. We explored how the Trinity has been represented in artwork and then created our own artistic interpretations using fidget spinners to represent the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They look fantastic – check them out in our gallery.
In PE, we’ve started getting ready for Sports Day. We worked hard on our athletics skills and showed brilliant persistence in all of our activities. We also had a great session with the South Ribble coaches and put our cricket skills to the test. You can see us in action in the gallery!
In music, we had loads of fun working with boomwhackers. We’ve been learning how to play a melody and even started composing our own pieces in small groups – lots of great teamwork on show.
This week in History we have been learning all about Egyptian Gods. We used our models to explore their features and researched their roles in Egyptian life.
We also enjoyed our Wonderful World Assembly this week, where we read the story of Mama Miti, a woman who planted trees across Kenya to protect the environment and help her community. This tied in beautifully with our science topic on plants and our PSHE learning about shared responsibility. A lovely message for us all to take away.
