Year 3 Friday 21st November 2025
Date: 21st Nov 2025 @ 11:39am
Welcome to your Friday Blog!
We have had a jam packed week of learning!

Home Practice
Keep changing your books regularly and read for at least 15-20 minutes every night!
Well done to everyone who completed their Sumdog challenges. Three new challenges have been added today. Remember, little and often every night will benefit your children with their learning in school. We have set a division challenge this week as we are learning all about division next week.
Try and do a little counting at home as well. This will promote number fluency and understanding. There are lots of counting games here at ictgames.com that we use in school. You will also find lots of counting songs on YouTube.
We have given out your home spellings to practice for next week's test. In our spelling lessons this week we have been revisiting our spelling strategies. We have been breaking our words into syllables to help us spell more accurately and using what we already know to spell new words. Your spellings this week all have mis and dis prefixes.
disappoint, disagree, disobey, misbehave, mislead, misspell, misunderstand, minubderstood, disobedient, misconduct, misdeed,
misfire, misguided, minuse, misspent, misplace, disgrace, disguise
This week in Year 3
In Maths, we’ve been getting to grips with the grid method and learning how to multiply two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers with confidence. The children have shown great resilience tackling these steps. We also introduced division, revisiting our Year 2 learning and setting a fun division challenge for everyone to have a go at. Super effort all round!
In English, we began our new and very exciting story, The Ice Palace. We were introduced to Ivan and the mysterious villain Starjik, which sparked some fantastic discussions. The children produced wonderful character descriptions and even wrote a brilliant retelling of the wolf attack. Super English this week, Year 3!

On Friday, we joined children from around the world to celebrate the Jubilee Year of Hope, taking part in the live lesson together. The class created thoughtful journals and designed beautiful bunting to display proudly in school. It was a lovely way to reflect on hope and community.

In Art, we continued our Drawing with Scissors collage topic. This week we focused on stencilling and explored the idea of negative space. The children worked so carefully to create their own stencils, resulting in some truly beautiful pieces of artwork.
We also took part in a fantastic dance festival with the South Ribble coaches this week. Everyone was brilliant, learning new moves, performing with confidence, and showing off their dance skills. Well done, Year 3!
In Computing, we explored flipbooks and how moving pictures are created. We talked about only moving one element at a time to keep the animation smooth, and the class had great fun trying it out. Next week, we’ll be using stop frame software to take our animations even further.
