Welcome to you Year 3 blog
It’s been another busy and brilliant week in Year 3!

Home Learning
Reading – Please read every night for at least 15 minutes. Don’t forget to record it in your reading diary!
Maths – We’ve set two challenges on Sumdog this week. They focus on multiplication, division, and times tables – perfect for reinforcing the grid method we’ve been learning in class.
Spellings – This week’s spellings all the next set of Year 3/4 words. Try and learn a few couple every day
fruit, grammar, group, guard, guide, heard, heart, height, history, imagine, increase, important, interest, island, knowledge, learn, length, library
Counting – Keep counting too! Check out all our counting songs and videos on past blog posts to practise your 2s, 5s, 10s, and challenge yourself with 3s, 4s and 8s.
This week in Year 3
In English, we have been learning how to write clear non-fiction sentences and how to group our ideas using subheadings to help organise our writing and make it easier for the reader to understand. We explore light and dark, taking inspiration from our story, Orion and the Dark. Well done Year 3!

In Maths, we have been focusing on our 8 times tables. The children have been using doubling strategies alongside our multiplication method to help them calculate efficiently and build confidence with their times tables.
In Science, we have been learning all about reflective materials, investigating which materials reflect light best and thinking about where we see these used in everyday life.

In PE, we started our new gymnastics topic. The children have been working on balances, shapes and control, and have begun to link movements together to create simple sequences. They showed great effort, focus and resilience throughout the lesson. Please take a look at our gallery to see some of our fantastic gymnastics.

In Geography, we launched our new topic on North America, using atlases to explore the continent, locate countries and oceans, and begin to understand its key features.

FOREST SCHOOL
We were excited to be doing Forest School again. We discussed how to be safe around the fire and watched Mr Corbett light it.
We had some brilliant scientific discussions about the water travelling through the drainpipes and showed great teamwork and problem solving. It was very rainy and muddy but we just got on!
We had a hot chocolate with marshmallows and a reflection on our learning at the end.
