We have had a brilliant week this week, with lots of new learning, some animation and a very hands on rock experiment.

Home Practice

Continue with your fantastic home reading. Everyone is making amazing progress this year and this is down to your great home reading and regular practise!

This week we have set 3 challenges on Sumdog. Good Luck!

Make sure you also go on your fluency booster regularly to keep improving on those difficult skills.

Your spellings this week are from the statutory Year 3/4 spelling list. Use syllables and find the tricky bits to learn these. Choose 2 or 3 a day to work on.

This week in Year 3

We have had another fantastic week in Year 3 with lots of creativity, curiosity and brilliant learning on show.

In English, we completed our wordless adventure story Quest by Aaron Becker. The children have absolutely loved this series and have been so inspired by the incredible illustrations. Using the story as a guide, the class planned and wrote their own adventure tales filled with danger, imagination and heroic moments. Their ideas were amazing. You can see some wonderful examples of their writing in our gallery.

In Maths, we learned how to use the grid method for multiplication. The children showed great resilience as they got to grips with this new layout, and many of them were confidently tackling larger calculations by the end of the week. It has been brilliant to see their understanding grow.

In RE, we revisited the Mass and explored some of the important signs and symbols that help us understand its meaning. The children shared some thoughtful ideas and asked excellent questions about why each part of the Mass is so special within our faith.

In Science, we continued our work on rocks by investigating their uses and testing them for hardness, durability and impermeability. The children loved being hands-on scientists and were full of questions as they explored each sample. We definitely have some budding geologists in the class! Take a look at our gallery to see some of the investigations in action.

In Art, we began our new topic called Drawing with Scissors. The children learned how artists use stencils and collage to create shapes, patterns and bold designs. They made a fantastic start, experimenting with cutting techniques and layering. Some of their first pieces are already in our galleries for you to enjoy.

Finally, in Computing, we explored an AI animation tool. The class had to crop their own creations, attach a digital ‘skeleton’ and then bring their characters to life with movement. They were completely absorbed in the process and produced some brilliant animations. Amazing work, Year 3!
