This week in Year 3
In English we finished the story of The Ice Palace and brought the ending to life through some fantastic recounts of the meeting between Starjik and Ivan. We focused on using action sentences to create drama and excitement and to help the reader picture the moment clearly. The children worked hard to build tension and describe the atmosphere inside the Ice Palace. We were really impressed with the quality of their final pieces.
In maths we have been learning about time, starting the week by practising how to tell the time to the nearest minute. With regular practice, the children have become much more accurate and confident using this method. By the end of the week we moved on to reading and understanding 3-D shapes, which links to our DT topic. Next week we will be using our 3-D shape knowledge to create some brilliant palace structures of our own.

This week, Year 3 took part in an RE and drama lesson where they acted out the Annunciation of Mary and the Annunciation of Joseph. Through role play, they explored how each responded with trust, courage and openness to God’s message. The drama helped Year 3 to reflect on the importance of listening to God and recognising His call in our own lives. Their performances showed a growing understanding of these special moments in the story of Jesus.
We have also been learning how to create Christmas cards using printing techniques, beginning with experimenting and practising designs in our sketchbooks. We explored different tools, patterns and colour combinations to create bold and festive prints. Our final cards show how carefully we developed our ideas and refined our printing skills. We hope you enjoy our gallery.

We have been creating simple animations using toys and stop frame software this week. We planned each movement carefully, taking photos one step at a time to make our characters come to life. The children loved experimenting with different actions and seeing how small changes created smooth animation. We are excited to build on these skills and create even more animations next week.
