Year 2

Home Practice

Reading: In Year 2, children should read for at least 15/20 minutes every night and talk about the book.

This will help with understanding the text and learning new words.

Spelling: Please practise these spellings for your quiz on Thursday (02.04.26):

potion     lotion      affection     motion   question     instruction       competition    junction      reception   hibernation

Sumdog: Complete the addition/subtraction and spelling challenges.

Counting: Count forwards and backwards in 3, but start on a different number instead of 3. For example, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20 or 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22.

You could say them out loud or write the numbers down. Look for any patterns, what do you notice?

You could also work on your 2, 5, 10 or 3 times tables and doubling and halving.

English

We continued our learning through the story of Rosie Revere Engineer.

The children made story books and designed, labelled and discussed their own inventions.

We read our books to the children in Reception.

SPaG

We learnt more about -tion words and have been spotting them when reading in class.

Educational Plastic Base Ten Blocks for Early Math Practice | eBay UK

Maths

We have moved on to addition and subtraction.

The children were using their base ten knowledge to add two 2-digit numbers. For example, 38 + 47 = 85.

Reconciliation

R.E.

The children learnt about the Sacarment of Reconciliation in more detail. They found out that there are five stages to this

sacrament. They wrote about what they had learned and illustrated it.

We also learnt more about the Easter Vigil Mass.

Science

We looked at the bulbs we planted in January. Some have flowers, some have leaves and some are not growing at all. We discussed why this might be happening.

We also looked at the seeds we planted which we collected from the seed heads.

Forest School

We were in our very muddy log circle area. There was great team work to try to make the water flow all around a tree. There was some bug hunting, mud cooking, an obstacle course and also some clever crafting.
